Nordic box spring beds: natural sleep in Hamburg
Fennobed opens new showroom in the Elbe metropolis. The German-Finnish family business sees the bed as a living space.
As of October 5, Fennobed is once again present in Hamburg. Dorota Schumacher and Jürgen Loos, the owners of the representative office, will welcome and serve customers in Spaldingstraße. „With the reopening in Hamburg, we now have 21 locations in seven different countries. Just recently we were allowed to add Malta and Helsinki to our corporate map as well. It’s great that our Finnish idea of sleep from north to south has so many friends,“ says Fennobed founder Elli Lehnhoff.
Fennobed: more than just attention to detail
Dorota Schumacher and Jürgen Loos are now part of the Fennobed family with their store in Spaldingstraße. For despite its now international presence, the company remains true to its family tradition. Its two founders met and fell in love during their studies. Elli Lehtonen grew up on the southwest coast of Finland, where her parents designed and produced high-quality furniture in their own workshop. Her furniture design studies took her to Schwäbisch Gmünd for an Erasmus semester, where she met Andreas Lehnhoff. The son of an engineer wanted to become an industrial designer. The two decided to go their separate ways, not only privately but also professionally.
In 2004, they founded the company Fennobed, for which they still design the box spring beds themselves. They bring Ellis‘ brother Kalle Lehtonen on board and, with his help, are able to manufacture entirely in the family’s own factory. In this enduring structure, the partners are also a living part of the company. „We are convinced of the Fennobed idea and are happy to be part of it now,“ Dorota Schumacher emphasizes. „Only this trusting and close partnership at eye level enables us to actually be able to reliably promise our own high quality standards to customers,“ adds Jürgen Loos.
High expectations: the bed as a living space
The bed has an outstanding significance in the Finnish way of life. It is much more than just a place to sleep. It’s where the children romp, where they read, and where they relax after a sauna session. The bed is a center of activity throughout the day. For such a central place, expectations are naturally high. Sleeping comfort and the feeling of lying down should be very good. At the same time, one wants to feel good in a natural way and the bed should remain consistently appealing. In order to fulfill these wishes, Elli and Andreas Lehnhoff have combined Finnish naturalness and a love of good design with German precision and thoughtful design perfection. Their box spring beds can be designed from a very high-quality modular system with durable basic elements. These can be perfected with different fabrics, covers, feet and a large selection of matching headboards. This makes the beds changeable and adaptable to different phases of life or changing tastes. The family’s own production ensures that the quality of each manufactured piece really corresponds to the ideas of the developers. This makes the German-Finnish bed a sustainable companion for a lifetime.
