How is a box spring bed constructed?

Boxspring beds offer you special sleeping comfort. But how does the structure of a box spring bed actually differ from a slatted bed – and what is the function of the multiple spring layers?

Solid foundation: box spring or innerspring box

The first thing you notice about a box-spring bed is the spring box – it is also what gave the bed its name (box spring). When the bed is assembled, it replaces the slatted frame. However, the box spring not only serves as a spring, it is also upholstered. This makes lying on the bed particularly comfortable and is one of the reasons why it is so easy to get into. Nevertheless, the distance between the bed and the floor is smaller than with a conventional slatted frame. The spring box serves as an under-springing, so it usually contains an area-elastic Bonnell spring core, in which the lying pressure is distributed over several springs. However, the under-bed springing can also be a barrel pocket springing, for example in the MATRI Suvia motorised bed.

Boxspring bed mattress for an individual sleeping experience

The box spring bed mattress is the counterpart to the ordinary mattress in the construction of the bed. Thanks to a barrel spring system, it absorbs the pressure of lying down with pinpoint accuracy and adapts optimally to the body – for uniquely floating sleeping comfort. The FENNOBED box spring beds Cassia and Kaino combine the innerspring box and mattress into one compact element. In the Continental box spring bed Aurea as well as in the motorised bed Suvia, a separate mattress lies on top of the spring core box. Even more comfort: comfort overlay or topper

The comfort topper or topper mattress is a typically Scandinavian element for your box spring bed. It is placed on top of the box spring bed mattress, protecting it and providing additional comfort. The comfort pad can also be cleaned separately. Comfort toppers for the box spring bed are available in different versions, for example made of point-elastic pin latex or with integrated pocket springs.
